Create a site, step by step
The wizard from start to a live site — site type, name and subdomain, theme, domain, contact details — and what to do in the first ten minutes after.
Before you start
Decide the site's name, a short subdomain (letters and digits), and whether you have a domain to connect now. Neither is final: the name and theme change any time, and a domain can be connected later.
The wizard
- Site type — pick the recipe closest to what you are building. It decides which features are installed; you can add more from the site's Options later.
- Name and subdomain — the subdomain is live as soon as the site exists.
- Theme — a starting look. See Themes.
- Domain — enter a domain you own to connect it now, or skip.
- Contact information — appears in the footer, the legal pages and emails.
Create. The site's database, files, mail and address are set up; the recipe's pages, URLs and settings are installed. You land in its manager.
The first ten minutes
- Open the site in a new tab and click through the pages the recipe gave you.
- /settings: site name, tagline, admin email, logo.
- /pages and /content: put your words into the home page's blocks.
- /theme-editor: colours and fonts.
- If you connected a domain, finish its DNS: Domains and DNS.
- Turn on the features you skipped from /sites → the site's Options.
Managing several sites
Every manager page has a site picker at the top. Pick the site, and the page shows that site's data until you pick another. The choice is remembered per section.
